Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about berthing, buffers, and how request-to-book works — without invented awards or fake guarantees.
Common questions
Do you take payment online?+
No. This site uses request-to-book only. You open an email to hello@kirkwallshoreexcursions.com; we reply to confirm whether the date works. No payment is taken at enquiry.
Where do cruise ships berth in Kirkwall?+
Most large ships use Hatston, a deepwater berth about two miles from town, usually with a shuttle into Kirkwall. Some calls use Kirkwall Bay (often with tendering) or other town-side berths. Always check your ship’s advice and the Orkney Harbours list for that date.
How many guests are on the Charm & Highlights tour?+
Maximum six guests in a 7-seat vehicle, operated locally by Wow Atour. Larger parties should enquire — we may need a different format.
How long is the tour?+
About six hours of guided time. We recommend it only when your published hours ashore leave a comfortable buffer beyond six hours (typically around seven or more on the harbour list).
Are prices listed on the website?+
No. Pricing is unpublished here. We discuss arrangements when we reply to your request.
Is the schedule guaranteed?+
No. Times and berths come from Orkney Harbours publications and remain subject to change. Re-check closer to sailing.
Who operates Kirkwall Shore Excursions?+
Wow Atour operates the direct small-group tour promoted on this site. Contact hello@kirkwallshoreexcursions.com.
What if my ship is not on the list?+
Use the manual date option in the planner or request form and tell us your vessel name. Harbour lists can lag private itineraries.
Need help planning your Kirkwall call?
Tell us your ship date and how long you expect ashore — we will reply with an honest fit for the Orkney Charm & Highlights tour or suggest a simpler port-day option.
